Thank You Veterans
Students,
Thank you for collecting magazines for our troops. I will be shipping those this week. I am sure that the troops will be very thankful to receive them. This will show them how proud we are of them for standing up for our freedoms and fighting for us. I will also be including the wonderful cards that you created. I was very impressed with your words and art work.
Thank you students and thank you soldiers!!!!

Inventors and Artists
Today we have been fashioning clay into different shapes to celebrate art. Unit 3 in reading is about inventors and artists. We have been discussing what people gain from the work of inventors and artists. Students became artists on Friday, November 6th when they fashioned clay into different forms. The clay will be baked and then they will be able to take their art home with them. Can you think of other things we gain from the work of inventors and artists? Please post on our blog if you have ever gained from their work.

Great Idea!
Boys and Girls,
I am so proud of your recommendations for our "Doing the Right Thing" reading project. We will begin our two projects immediately. Please bring in your cans for recycling and newspapers for the troops through the month of October. We will continue to collect cans until spring when we purchase and plant our trees. I will ship the newspapers to our troops in November. Again, I am very proud of your ideas and excitement about this project. Together, we can make a difference!!!

Wildlife Activity
Hello enthusiastic students!
Today I would like for you to send me some ideas about conservation and animals. What do you think that we (Russellville Elementary School) could do to help protect wild animals? In this week's story, Jane Goodall's Ten Ways to Help Save Wildlife, we have learned several suggestions. What do you think we could do? Think creatively and make up some of your own ideas.
Remember the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!!!

Can you think of an example of figurative language to celebrate fall break or homecoming? If so, post it on our blog!!!

What is your favorite type of figurative language?
It's your time to shine!!! Leave a post with your favorite type of figurative language. Don't forget to tell me what type it is.
My favorite type of figurative language is a simile.
The candy parachutes fell from the sky like small floating marshmallows.

Fantastic Fall Football!
Hey boys and girls!
Today I had an awesome afternoon watching fantastic fall football. I first thought the weather would be bad when the lightning kept winking at us, but it decided to take a nap during the games. I was tickled pink to watch my wonderful students run like cheetahs and chase down the other team. They all played hard and I am super proud of them. I hate that the score didn't go our way, but it was fun watching. I especially liked seeing them after the game....they were as dirty as little pigs. I will come watch again soon.
Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Personification
Hello wonderful students!
Today we learned about personification. Personification is when a writer gives human qualities to something that is not human. For example, I could say that the leaves on a tree danced to the ground. Can leaves dance? No, humans dance. This means that the leaves fell to the ground, but I personified the leaves when I said that they could dance.
Now, you try. Take an object and personify it!
I can't wait to see how creative you can be!!!

Idiom Time!!!!
Okay boys and girls, now it's time to show off your use of idioms. No, I didn't say idiots!!! Remember, idioms mean something other that what the actual words "say". When I say that it is raining cats and dogs, I don't mean that cats and dogs are falling from the sky do I? No, I mean that it is raining really hard. Now, it is your turn. Give me and idiom and tell me what it means.
Ex.) Mrs. Bendall has had a frog in her throat this week. This means that Mrs. Bendall has sounded funny talking all week because she is sick.
Good luck and happy idiom writing!

Alliteration
Good afternoon students!
Today, I want you to blog me your favorite alliteration. Be sure to start your sentence with a capital letter and end it with an end mark.
For example) Tiny Tim turned two today.
I look forward to reading your examples of alliteration.
